Patrick Crusius, the attacker at a shopping mall in El Paso, Texas

Texas officials confirmed that 20 people were killed and 26 injured in a shootout at an El Paso shopping mall today, entity Governor Greg Abbott and El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen reported. 

Local media identified the suspect, a 21-year-old white youth, as Patrick Crusius, who lives in the Dallas area. 

According to some media, Patrick is a loyal follower of President Donald Trump and his immigration policies, since in his Twitter account, which has already been removed, there were publications in which he showed his support for the president.

Surveillance cameras at the mall captured the moment the shooter entered the store carrying a rifle and wearing a black T-shirt, light trousers, glasses and hearing protectors.

Officials said that an AK47 rifle was used in the attack and that the suspect surrendered immediately upon learning of the police presence in the shooting area, where a Walmart retail chain store and Cielo Vista shopping mall are located. 

The authorities also said that the detainee must face a fair trial and that all lines of investigation will be followed to clarify this incident, after it was initially reported that there were several suspects.
